The heartbeat of Isabella’s mother, Iris, can be clearly heard in the work, but soon grows weaker, and finally disappears altogether at which point Isabella cries out, “Mama? Mama?!” With no more words to say, Isabella weeps over the body of her mother as the curtain falls to conclude the second act.
